LOW POWERED & BUILT-IN WIRELESS
MODEMS:
Most built-in
wireless interfaces and inexpensive
PCMCIA cards are extremely
low powered and designed for
Home/Office applications in which
the distance to an access point is
minimal. While our
access points are capable of
reaching a mile or more, your low
powered
devices usually can't reach back, making
it the weak link in
a broken chain. One or a combination of the high-quality
products listed below provide the
best service.
WATER & WI-FI: While 802.11x
frequencies
will easily penetrate Fiberglass
boats, they can not penetrate water!
If you are using your
wireless internet access in Salon or
Stateroom of your
boat, and it is at or near the
surface of the water, much of the
signal may be absorbed. Just
raising the broadcast/receive point
a few feet above the water line with
a table-top antenna will
increase signal.
Unfortunately, built-in cards do not
support external antennas, but some
wireless cards do. In any
case, the high-powered
wireless card combined with a table
top antenna will provide the best
service.
